Louise Staley is Director Food and Environment Unit at the Institute of Public Affairs where she regularly appears in the opinion pages of daily newspapers and on radio. Recent areas of publication include wheat export constraints in the Australian Financial Review and deregulating shop trading hours in the West Australian. Ms Staley is also undertaking a PhD at the University of Melbourne in the school of Social and Political Science on the impact of regulation on rural communities and rural businesses.
Her professional background is largely in finance, where she held executive positions in funds management and equity analysis, specialising in telecommunications research. Ms Staley is a former Deputy Chair of the Australian Film Commission (now called Screen Australia) and a former board member of the Australian Institute of Family Studies.
Ms Staley holds a Bachelor of Arts (philosophy and economics), Postgraduate Diploma in Finance and a Masters in Public Policy. Additionally she is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
She has held various roles within the Liberal Party including State Vice President and member of the State Finance Committee. Ms Staley is a member of the Board of Management of the East Grampians Health Service. Ms Staley’s other community activities include active membership of her local Country Fire brigade, Red Cross and Landcare groups.
